Major Gifts Officer

 
 

Title: Major Gifts Officer

Department: Resource Development

Reports To: Director of Resource Development

FSLA Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Pay: $65,000-$75,000

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Boys & Girls Club of Rochester seeks a skilled Major Gift Officer to join our team in achieving our major gift and corporate sponsorship fundraising objectives. Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, the Major Gift Officer will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with major gift donors and corporate sponsors.

In this role, we seek an individual of integrity, confidence, attention to detail, and passion for relationship-building. This individual must be emotionally intelligent, intuitive, organized, and politely persistent. They are results-focused, donor-centric, intrinsically motivated, and highly energetic. KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75-100 donors.

  • Create individual goals for each individual and organization in the portfolio based on the donor’s history of giving and the organization’s knowledge of that donor's potential.

  • Create a comprehensive cultivation and solicitation strategy for each donor/prospect in the portfolio and execute it to retain and upgrade donors.

  • Directly solicit major gifts and corporate sponsorships.

  • Partner with Administrative, Program staff and/or Board members on donor engagement opportunities.

  • Provide executive-level support to senior staff in preparation for solicitation or stewardship opportunities, including appropriate, concise briefing materials in advance of meetings with donors and prospects.

  • Qualify new prospects for assignment to the major gifts portfolio.

  • Work with the appropriate staff to secure project information to develop personalized materials directed at individual donors/prospects and corporate sponsors that are in line with donor interests, programmatic priorities, and reports that detail progress made because of a gift, etc.

  • Develop unique cultivation and stewardship opportunities, such as small events for

    select donors/prospects in the portfolio and participate in broader donor cultivation

    events such as A Chair Affair.

  • Track portfolio activity and progress in the organization’s CRM (Bloomerang) and create

    reports as requested.

  • Maintain knowledge of programmatic priorities and issues.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

  • The Major Gifts Officer must have a strong understanding of and passion for the Boys &

    Girls Club of Rochester mission and strategic priorities.

  • Minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with progressive

    responsibility and a proven track record of soliciting, closing and stewarding major gifts

    of $5,000 or more. Experience soliciting and closing six-figure gifts is a plus.

  • A B.A. degree is strongly preferred.

  • Experience soliciting planned gifts preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully on

    the phone, via email/text and in person with donors, board members, volunteers, staff,

    and the public.

  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex themes and activities into a short, compelling

    presentation or written piece.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

    simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to develop long-term plans, set objectives,

    and track progress toward achieving goals.

  • Familiarity with moves management preferred.

  • Experience with donor database management and systems to track campaigns and

    ensure complete, secure, and private donor recording and reporting. (Bloomerang)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of Rochester philanthropic community.

  • Flexible work schedule required.

TITLE: Youth Development Professional

DEPARTMENT: Program

REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator

AFLSA STATUS: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 an hour

Hours: Monday – Friday between the hours of 2:00pm and 8:00pm during School Year.

Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm during the Summer.

Two sites available for after-school 2023-2024: The Place, and Longfellow Elementary
