lead Youth development Professional
“lead YDP”

Quick note:
This is an internal posting, meaning that we’re currently only accepting applications from staff who are actively employed with our Club.

Title: Lead Youth Development Professional
Supervisor: Site Coordinator
Supervises: YDPs and members (when the site’s leader is not present)
Site: The Place
Status: Part-time, non-exempt, hourly
Rate of Pay: $22.25/hr
Schedule: Approx. 30-35 hours/week, Monday through Friday availability required.

First things first: What’s Club?
Since 1865, Boys & Girls Clubs (aka Club) has been making positive impacts in the lives of kids and teens. Today, we’re a global movement, reaching nearly 3.6 million young people in over 5,000 locations worldwide! Right here in Rochester, we’re proud to have 4 amazing Club sites, offering out-of-school programs designed to meet unique educational and health needs. With nearly 500 members registered, we serve around 300 children and teens (aka members) and their families (aka caregivers) daily.

Site and Working Schedule
We are currently hiring for a Lead YDP at The Place. The Lead YDP may occasionally be asked to assist with coverage at other Club sites. The school-year schedule for the Lead YDP will be from 1:30pm to 8pm. The schedule will vary based on the number of members present, on school closure days and in the summertime. The typical summer shift for the Lead YDP is anticipated to be 10am to 5pm. Preference will be given to applicants who can meet these availability periods. If there are specific schedule needs, applicants should note them when applying.

What’s the Role?
The Lead YDP is a Youth Development Professional who assumes manager-on-duty responsibilities in the absence of a site’s leader, with absences most regularly occurring in the evening hours of programming. It is anticipated around two-thirds of the Lead YDP's time will be spent in a YDP role, directly leading youth members. The other third of time will involve supporting the site’s operations - with things like programming, escalated behavioral support, staffing assistance, labor monitoring, and caregiver engagement.

What else will the Lead YDP do in addition to their YDP responsibilities?

  • Collaborative Leadership: Partner with the site’s leader and other staff to implement, refine, and evaluate programming standards – such as Club’s 4 positive outcome areas and safety expectations. The Lead YDP helps to set the tone by leading by example.

  • Mentorship and Development: Serve as a mentor to YDPs, providing ongoing training, coaching, and support to encourage professional growth and Club success. The Lead YDP may also become the point person for training new YDPs.

  • Club Operations: Be a Club procedures pro! This includes monitoring staff-to-member ratios, facilitating shift cuts, navigating MyClubHub, and being well-versed in all necessary opening, closing, and emergency procedures.

  • Behavioral Support: Provide leadership with escalated behavioral needs, assisting fellow YDPs and communicating with caregivers as needed.

  • Be the Go-To Problem Solver: Address challenges with curiosity, patience, and empathy. Approach difficult conversations with confidence. While no single staff member is expected to solve every issue, the Lead YDP must be able to navigate situations effectively until the site’s leader is available.

What You’ll Need:

  • Be 21+ years old.

  • High School Diploma/GED usually required, but we may consider applicants who are actively pursuing completion of either or can demonstrate other commitments to education and trades!

  • Commitment to professional development, in the form of participating in training opportunities, leadership meetings, and coaching processes.

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods (we’re active and hands-on!).

  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs (have we mentioned we’re active?)

  • Reliable transportation to Club site.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Prior supervisory experiences.

  • Demonstrated track record of effectively engaging with and supporting caregivers.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (we’ll help you get this if you don’t already have them).

Don’t Hold Back:
If you have a passion for making a real difference – even if you don’t meet every qualification – we still want to hear from you! Research shows that many candidates may not apply if they don’t meet every single requirement, but if this job excites you, please apply! While the 21 years of age requirement is a firm one, Club strives to balance experience with potential whenever possible.

The Perks:
In addition to a competitive wage and some flexibility with scheduling, Lead YDPs accrue PTO, can participate in a 401k plan, take advantage of Club trainings as part of professional development, and receive a free Club membership for any household dependents.

The Fine Print:

  • Club is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, color, religion, national origin, disability, genetic information, or any other status protected by federal, state or local law.

  • Club performs comprehensive and criminal background screenings as a condition of employment offers, and monitors thereafter.

  • This job posting provides a snapshot of the primary responsibilities and qualifications for the Lead YDP role. It’s not a complete list, so expect a few other tasks to pop up as we go!

  • We will endeavor to make reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified applicants who have disabilities which hinder their ability to complete the application process. Please call our main line at 507.287.2300 to request an accommodation.
